Why am I here?
This question provides an opportunity for a poetic, possibly even profound, answer; however my answer is very simple: I want to write. I wish my response was deeper, more eloquent; but honesty has to win out on this one. I’ve been toying with the idea of writing for a long time and about a year ago I opened the notebook at began to write poems after a very long hiatus. Some of them were good, some of them not so much; but what it told me was that the more I wrote the more I wanted to write. I’ve reached a point now where I want to move beyond the poems, but I don’t know where to start. In not knowing where to start, and struggling with that question for the last several weeks, it occurred to me that if I don’t write SOMETHING I will write nothing.
Today, I stopped at the bookstore and started looking through some of the writing and research books. Several of them caught my attention, but one made it’s way home with me (yes, I did pay for it): A Writer’s Book of Days by Judy Reeves. Basically, the concept is this: to be good at anything, you have to practice. This book gives topics for every day of the year, because a little push never hurt anyone, and asks the ‘writer’ in yourself to allot a certain amount of time daily to write on a topic from that day…just to practice. So, in essence that is why I’m here; to practice.
Thank you for joining me on my journey…I caution you, it may be a bumpy ride; I hope you’re up for it!
